Pension Schemes Online - software and online forms
We have developed a Pension Schemes Online Service. This allows you to submit your Pension Schemes Service forms and returns over the internet - using either:
- Our online Pension Schemes product.
- Third Party internet filing enabled software.
You can choose the product that best suits your needs. We are pleased to accept forms and returns filed using any of the products listed. Some of these products are free, others you have to pay for. The HMRC online Pension Schemes product is free.
HMRC provide their own free online Pension Schemes product to send your Pension Schemes forms and returns online. It’s easy to use and in the majority of cases will calculate the tax liability for you. We have tested all the features of our product and will provide support to users through our Online Service Helpdesk.
Key features include:
- Built in guidance to help you complete only the necessary forms and questions, based on the information provided.
- Validation of data
- Provision of a unique identification code and digital receipt for each return successfully filed.
- Automatic calculation of any tax due based on the information you provide.

- Accounting for Tax (AFT)
- Add Scheme Administrator to Scheme
- Amend Accounting for Tax (AFT)
- Amend certain pension scheme details (includes details of pension schemes in existence on or before 6 April 2006)
- Amend Event Report
- Amend or update Practitioner details
- Amend or update Scheme Administrator details
- Amend Pension Scheme Return
- Amend Relief at Source
- Associate Scheme Administrator to Scheme
- Authorise or de-authorise HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) to deal with a Practitioner on behalf of a Scheme Administrator
- New Scheme Administrator details and declaration including declarations by Scheme Administrators of deferred annuity contracts
- Notify you are no longer acting on behalf of a Scheme Administrator
- Register a new pension scheme for tax relief and exemptions
- Register to operate Relief at Source
- Registered Pension Scheme Event Report
- Registered Pension Scheme Return
- Reporting cessation as a Scheme Administrator
There are currently no plans to make Contracting out available as an online form.
The table below lists third party products that have been successfully tested with us to ensure that their forms can be filed over the internet. We have not tested any other features in these products. To ensure the software product meets your specific needs, please contact the software developer for further details. A number of third party software suppliers are still testing their products with us. When they have tested successfully, they will be added to the list below.
