General Counsel and Solicitor for HM Revenue & Customs: Anthony Inglese

The Solicitor's Office forms part of HM Revenue & Customs' (HMRC) Legal and Governance Directorate and provides legal services to the whole of the Department.

The principal aim of the Solicitor's Office is to provide a high quality and cost effective legal service to Ministers and HMRC's Board and staff throughout the UK.

This includes:

  1. Providing legal advice.
  2. Drafting statutory instruments and other legal documents.
  3. Conducting tribunal and civil litigation - conducted in the High Court, Court of Appeal, House of Lords, European Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights
  4. Prosecuting offences.
  5. Working on new legislation.

The Solicitor's Office has a broad range of work which involves not only tax but many aspects of public law including Human Rights, Freedom of Information, European law and Judicial Review.
